When knitting socks for someone whose foot you cannot measure directly, use their shoe size to determine the target foot length from back of heel to tip of longest toe:
- US Women 6 / EU 36–37: 8.75 inches (22 cm) total foot length (begin toe decreases at 7 inches)
- US Women 8 / EU 38–39: 9.5 inches (24 cm) total foot length (begin toe decreases at 7.5 inches)
